Panthers suffer fourth consecutive loss in overtime against Canucks without Barkov and Tkachuk

The Vancouver Canucks secured their first win of the season with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Florida Panthers. J.T. Miller scored the game-winning goal, just over two minutes into the extra period. Teddy Blueger and Quinn Hughes also scored for Vancouver, while Kevin Lankinen made 26 saves for the win. Anton Lundell and Jesper Boqvist scored for the Panthers, who got 30 saves from Sergei Bobrovsky.

Vancouver has been strong at scoring first in their games this season, taking the lead in three of their four matchups. The Canucks improved their record to 1-1-2 with the win over the Panthers, breaking a streak of eight losses in their last ten games in Florida. Florida, missing key players Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk, got contributions from rookie Mackie Samoskevich with an assist on their first goal.

A controversial moment in the game came when Quinn Hughes scored for Vancouver after a disputed faceoff situation that the Panthers believed should have been called a hand pass. However, the goal stood, with Nils Aman getting credit for the assist. Lundell continued his strong play in Barkov’s absence, scoring his fourth goal in the last three games.

Both teams will be in action again on Saturday, with Vancouver facing Philadelphia and Florida taking on the Vegas Golden Knights in a matchup of the last two Stanley Cup winners.
