Evacuations were ordered for east Oakland residents after a brush fire broke out, burning two homes and threatening dozens of others. More than 80 firefighters and personnel from various fire agencies were fighting the fast-moving fire, which spread over 13 acres and burned fewer than 10 structures. Residents in several zones were ordered to evacuate immediately to ensure their safety. A temporary evacuation point was set up at Burckhalter Elementary School. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Representative Barbara Lee urged residents to follow evacuation orders and safety guidelines to stay safe.
