Beloved “Baywatch” Alum Michael Newman Passes Away at 68
The Hollywood community is mourning the loss of Michael Newman, known for his role as Newmie on the hit show “Baywatch”. Newman, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006, passed away from heart complications on October 20 surrounded by family and friends.
Director Matthew Felker, a close friend of Newman, paid tribute to him on Instagram, sharing that Newman was not only a hero but also a fierce competitor. Felker recalled a touching moment before Newman’s passing when he grabbed his hand tightly and promised to see each other again.
Newman, the only “Baywatch” cast member who was a real-life Los Angeles County lifeguard, continued as a full-time firefighter even after the show ended. He had been candid about his battle with Parkinson’s, expressing gratitude for the time it had given him to reflect on life and cherish moments with loved ones.
Newman is survived by his wife Sarah and their children Chris and Emily. His passing has left a void in the entertainment industry, with many remembering him for his dedication to his craft and his inspiring outlook on life.
