Joe Kaufman is banking on the rising red tide to secure a surprise victory over Jared Moskowitz in CD 23.

Republican counterterrorism expert Joe Kaufman is making a bid to flip Florida’s 23rd Congressional District from blue to red, challenging Democratic incumbent Jared Moskowitz. Moskowitz, known for his public service history and viral online presence, is favored due to the district’s Democratic leanings and his successful legislative track record. Kaufman, on the other hand, is a persistent candidate with a background in national security and journalism.

Both candidates, in their mid-40s and of Jewish descent, support Israel and have similar positions on certain issues. Moskowitz has been endorsed by prominent figures and has a substantial fundraising advantage over Kaufman. However, Kaufman has gained support from notable Republicans and emphasizes policies such as boosting manufacturing, lowering taxes, and strengthening border control.

Moskowitz’s legislative accomplishments include efforts to address gun violence and disaster relief funding, though some of his bills have not passed. He has also engaged in viral confrontations with far-right politicians and backed bipartisan measures. With endorsements from various elected officials and organizations, he remains a strong contender in the district.

The 23rd Congressional District, spanning Broward to Palm Beach County, has traditionally been Democratic but has shown signs of potential Republican competitiveness. The upcoming General Election on November 5 will determine whether Moskowitz retains his seat or if Kaufman’s long-shot bid succeeds in flipping the district.
