A 9-year-old girl from North Carolina who was reported missing in an Amber Alert has been found safe, according to police. The girl, Mekiya Werrell Strickland, was last seen with her father, Claude Leslie Werrell, who was wanted for questioning in connection to a death investigation. The Pembroke Police Department had been searching for the girl, who was reported missing at 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The town of Pembroke is located in Robeson County, about 90 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The girl was located late Wednesday morning and her father was taken into custody, though it is not clear if he has been charged with a crime.
