Thai woman Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn has been sentenced to death for poisoning her friend with cyanide, marking the first of 14 murder trials she faces. Sararat, a gambling addict, is accused of swindling money from her victims before killing them to fund her habit. The court convicted her for the murder of her friend Siriporn Khanwong, who died shortly after a Buddhist ritual in 2022. Traces of cyanide were found in Siriporn’s body. Sararat has been linked to a series of cyanide poisonings dating back to 2015, with only one victim surviving out of the 15 she allegedly lured. She faces charges for 13 additional murders and around 80 offences in total. Sararat’s ex-husband and former lawyer have also been sentenced for their involvement in the crimes. Residents are shocked by the severity and scale of Sararat’s alleged crimes, as she faces the death penalty for her actions. Thailand has seen high-profile poisoning cases in the past, but Sararat’s case stands out for its shocking nature. Siriporn’s mother expressed relief after the verdict, stating that justice has been served for her daughter. Authorities continue to investigate the extent of Sararat’s crimes and the circumstances that led to her shocking actions.
