Scott Stricklin’s future is now linked to the trajectory of Todd Golden, not Billy Napier

University of Florida athletic director, Scott Stricklin, recently announced that Billy Napier would be retained as the head football coach for the 2025 season. This decision, seen as a self-preserving move, has raised concerns due to allegations against men’s basketball coach Todd Golden.

The Independent Florida Alligator published a story detailing a Title IX investigation into Golden, accusing him of sexual exploitation, harassment, and stalking. The allegations include sending explicit photos and videos while traveling for UF, unwanted advances on Instagram, and requests for sexual favors.

If the allegations against Golden are untrue, it could damage the credibility of future claims. However, if proven true, not only should Golden be removed, but Stricklin should face consequences as well. Stricklin’s handling of abuse allegations against former women’s basketball coach Cam Newbauer and the firing of soccer coach Tony Amato indicate a pattern of mishandling such situations.

The fate of Stricklin should be tied to the outcome of the investigation into Golden. Stricklin’s past actions with women’s sports programs at Florida raise concerns about his ability to address serious issues within the athletics department.

The hope is that the allegations against Golden are false, but if proven true, it may be time for a complete overhaul at the University of Florida. The priority should be to hold those responsible for misconduct accountable and ensure a safe and respectful environment for all student athletes.
