The International Chess Federation’s (FIDE) World Championship final 2024 is set to take place in Singapore, with reigning world champion Ding Liren from China facing off against young Indian grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju. The final will run from November 25 to December 13, 2024, at Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island. The format includes up to 14 classical games, with the first player to score 7.5 points becoming the world champion. In case of a tie, tie-break formats will be used.
Gukesh Dommaraju, at 18, is the second-youngest grandmaster in history and the youngest-ever Candidates Tournament winner. Should he defeat Liren, he will become the youngest classical world champion ever. Ding Liren, the reigning world champion, has been impressed by his young opponent’s maturity but remains a formidable opponent.
The showdown between Ding and Gukesh has drawn comparisons to the classic Fischer-Spassky match in 1972. Despite predictions favoring Gukesh, both players are focused on the game and enjoying the experience.
The winner of the championship will walk away with a prize fund of $2.5 million. Past winners of the FIDE World Chess Championship include Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Magnus Carlsen, and Ding Liren. Fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the outcome of this exciting final.
