London-based restaurateur and activist Osama Qashoo has launched Cola Gaza, a soda drink with a mission to boycott companies supporting the Israeli army and fueling the genocide in Gaza. The beverage, created as a trade-not-aid product, is a symbol of the Palestinian struggle for freedom and aims to hit financially companies like Coca-Cola, which operate in Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem. Qashoo, a former member of the International Solidarity Movement, has faced challenges in creating and distributing the drink, but has already sold 500,000 cans in his London restaurants and through online retailers. The profits from Cola Gaza sales are being donated towards rebuilding the maternity ward of a hospital in Gaza. Cola Gaza joins other brands in the market raising awareness and promoting boycotts against multinational cola companies operating in Israel. The campaign seeks to generate awareness and hold companies accountable for complicity in atrocity crimes. Qashoo is currently working on improving the drink’s recipe and hopes that every sip of Cola Gaza reminds people of Palestine’s plight. He believes that continuing to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict is essential to ensuring that future generations do not forget the atrocities that have occurred in the region.
