President-elect Donald Trump appointed Sebastian Gorka, a conservative commentator, to a national security role in his administration. Gorka will serve as deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism. He previously served in a similar position during Trump’s first administration. Gorka, who defended Trump’s ban on refugees from predominantly Muslim countries, is known for advocating the America First Agenda and the MAGA Movement. He was born in Britain to Hungarian parents. Gorka was previously associated with former Trump strategist Steve Bannon but was forced out of the White House following changes in leadership. Since leaving the White House, he has hosted radio and television shows and was a commentator on Fox News. However, John Bolton, a former national security adviser, criticized Gorka, calling him a “con man” and questioning his qualifications in counterterrorism. Trump also appointed Alex Wong as assistant to the president and principal deputy national security adviser. Wong, who previously held positions at the Department of State, will work under newly named national security adviser Mike Waltz. This appointment comes as Trump has been slow to begin the transition of power following the election.
