The Sarasota County School Board meeting on Tuesday night was filled with calls for Bridget Ziegler’s resignation due to the controversy surrounding rape allegations against her husband, former Florida GOP leader Christian Ziegler. Although the rape allegation against Christian was dropped, he is now being investigated for video voyeurism. Bridget admitted to a previous consensual three-way sexual relationship with the woman accusing her husband but was not present during the alleged rape. The Sarasota County School Board voted 4-1 to recommend Bridget’s resignation, with Bridget being the only dissenting vote. Despite the public outcry, Bridget Ziegler addressed the situation at the meeting and stressed that personal matters have no place in discussions within the school board chambers. She acknowledged the challenges she has faced and emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism. The meeting at one point saw a speaker’s microphone cut during criticism of Bridget Ziegler, but she allowed it to be turned back on for the speaker to continue. Bridget Ziegler concluded her address expressing readiness for further discussion and comments. The controversy surrounding her husband’s actions and the calls for her resignation remain ongoing issues in the community and within the school board.
