For the 31st consecutive year, the Salvation Army in Central Florida teamed up with Valencia College’s culinary school to provide Thanksgiving meals for the community. They cooked enough food to feed 8,500 people, including turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, cookies, and pies. Major Ken Chapman of the Salvation Army highlighted the significant increase in the need for their services this year, emphasizing the importance of supporting each other during the holiday season.
The generous donation of $50,000 from a retired Orlando resident made the meal service possible. The event aimed not only to address hunger but also to bring the community together and lift each other up. Valencia College students had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in quantity cooking while serving the community, with volunteers receiving extra credit for their participation.
The event symbolized a day of service and unity, with the shared goal of making the community better by supporting one another. The Salvation Army expressed gratitude for all the volunteers and donors who helped keep this tradition alive for over three decades. The initiative was a testament to the power of collaboration and generosity, especially during the holiday season.
