Former politician Andrew Gillum, who faced a scandal involving corruption charges and a drug-related incident in 2020, is set to make a comeback with a new podcast. iHeartMedia announced that Gillum will co-host the “Native Land Pod” alongside Angela Rye and Tiffany Cross. The podcast aims to address political issues and inspire listeners to work towards greater freedom and political liberation.
Gillum, a former mayor of Tallahassee, Florida, narrowly lost the 2018 gubernatorial election to Ron DeSantis. Despite facing corruption charges related to campaign cash and gifts, prosecutors dropped all charges against him last year after a jury acquitted him on one count and failed to reach a verdict on remaining charges.
In 2020, Gillum was found intoxicated in a Miami Beach hotel room with a man who had overdosed on drugs. Police discovered suspected crystal methamphetamine at the scene, leading Gillum to seek treatment for alcohol abuse and depression.
Despite his troubled past, Gillum expressed excitement about the podcast and the opportunity to engage in tough conversations about politics and social issues. He hopes that the show will provide a platform for listeners to share their experiences and ideas, ultimately fostering a sense of belonging and validation.
Gillum’s return to the public eye through the podcast marks a new chapter in his career, offering him a platform to engage with listeners in meaningful discussions.
