Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis has officially launched the 2024 Holiday Money Hunt in Florida, urging residents and businesses to check if they have any unclaimed property in the state. With an estimated $3 billion in unclaimed property in Florida, Patronis hopes to raise awareness during the holiday season. He emphasizes that a little extra cash can go a long way, especially during the festive season, and encourages Floridians to visit FLTreasureHunt.gov to see if they have any unclaimed property waiting for them.
Patronis and the Department of Financial Services are using social media platforms to spread the word about the Holiday Money Hunt, with a focus on reaching as many people as possible. The Miami area has the highest amount of unclaimed property at $1 billion, followed by Tampa-St. Petersburg, Orlando, and other regions.
Unclaimed property includes dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances, and refunds among other assets. By participating in the Holiday Money Hunt, individuals have the opportunity to discover any unclaimed property that may be rightfully theirs.
Through the use of social media and the hashtag #FLHolidayMoneyHunt, Patronis aims to engage Floridians and businesses in the search for unclaimed property, ultimately helping individuals find potentially valuable assets that have been forgotten or left unclaimed.
