Notre Dame Cathedral Unveiled to the World After 5 Years of Restoration Work | Global News

Paris – After five years since the devastating fire that nearly destroyed Notre Dame Cathedral, the iconic Gothic masterpiece has finally been fully restored. The Associated Press had an exclusive first glimpse inside the cathedral’s interiors during a visit with French President Emmanuel Macron, broadcast to the public.

The cathedral’s transformation is described as breathtaking, with light now dancing across brilliant stone and gilded accents gleaming anew. Visitors will once again be able to marvel at the cathedral’s history and craftsmanship starting from December 8.

The restoration process involved cleaning over 42,000 square meters of stone and painstakingly disassembling, cleaning, and retuning the 8,000 pipes of the grand organ. The intricate marquetry floor around the altar, the polished Cross of Glory, and the rebuilt spire that rises 96 meters into the sky are all part of the cathedral’s rebirth.

The restoration also showcased hidden treasures, such as murals in the chapels circling the nave and choir, and fragments of Notre Dame’s medieval jubé found beneath the transept crossing. State-of-the-art fire prevention systems have been integrated into the structure to ensure the cathedral’s protection from future disasters.

Notre Dame Cathedral’s restoration is a testament to the resilience and dedication displayed by the restoration team in preserving this beloved historical landmark. The cathedral now stands as a beacon of hope and beauty for generations to come.
