Potential salmonella contamination leads to the recall of SunFed cucumbers and Costco eggs

SunFed Produce has issued a recall on cucumbers shipped to 13 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces due to potential salmonella contamination. The cucumbers were sold between Oct. 12 and Nov. 26, and consumers who purchased them during this time frame are advised to check with the store where they bought them to see if they are part of the recall. Similarly, nearly 11,000 cartons of 24-count organic eggs sold in Costco stores in five southern U.S. states have been recalled for the same reason. The eggs were sold under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand with a use-by date of Jan. 5, 2025. Customers should check their egg cartons for Julian code 327 and return them to the store for a refund if they are part of the recall.

Salmonella can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with most people recovering within a week. However, young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of becoming seriously ill. It is important for consumers who purchased the recalled products to wash any items or surfaces that may have come in contact with the produce and to discard the affected items or return them to the store.

This recall comes after a separate salmonella outbreak earlier in the summer that sickened 450 people in the U.S. Consumers are advised to stay informed about recalls and take necessary precautions to protect their health and safety.
