Oak Park Police detective Allan Reddins was killed in the line of duty while responding to a report of an armed suspect leaving a bank in Oak Park, just outside of Chicago. The suspect was also shot in the leg and taken into custody, although it is unclear who shot the suspect. Detective Reddins, 40, was sworn into the Oak Park Police Department in May 2019 and his death is the first line of duty death for the department since 1938. The Oak Park Fire Department responded to the incident and found Reddins had been shot in the left side. He was pronounced deceased at 10:10 a.m. while the suspect remains in stable condition at Loyola University Medical Center. The Village of Oak Park extended its condolences to Detective Reddins’ family, friends, colleagues, and the wider law enforcement community as they mourn his loss due to this senseless act of violence. The department did not provide further details about the identity of the suspect or how the shooting occurred.
