Palestinian militant group Hamas released a video of Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, pleading for President-elect Donald Trump’s help in securing his release from captivity. Alexander, abducted in Gaza during an attack on southern Israel, appeared pale and distressed in the video. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the video cruel psychological warfare and assured the family of ongoing efforts to bring the hostages home. Around half of the 101 hostages held in Gaza are believed to still be alive. Hamas leaders were heading to Cairo for ceasefire talks with Egyptian officials to explore possibilities for a deal to release hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. This comes after Washington announced renewed efforts towards this goal. The Hostages Families Forum called on the Biden and Trump administrations to intensify efforts to secure the release of the hostages, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. The news highlights the ongoing tensions in the Israel-Hamas conflict, with efforts being made to negotiate the release of hostages and bring an end to the violence.
