The Israeli military announced that they had killed a militant who took part in the October 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel and was employed by the U.S.-based charity, World Central Kitchen, in Gaza. World Central Kitchen confirmed the airstrike but stated they had no knowledge of an employee involved in the attack. They are pausing operations in Gaza and seeking more details. Three employees of the charity were killed in the airstrike, and at least five people died in a subsequent attack in Khan Younis.
The Israeli military denies targeting civilians and accuses Hamas of using civilians as human shields. At least 32 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes overnight, and Hamas leaders were expected to arrive in Cairo for cease-fire talks with Egyptian officials. The United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey are working to negotiate a cease-fire in Gaza. Progress in previous talks has been limited, with Hamas seeking an end to the war and the release of hostages, while Israel demands the eradication of Hamas.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has reportedly killed at least 44,382 people and displaced much of the population. The conflict began 13 months ago when Hamas militants attacked Israeli communities, leading to casualties and abductions. The situation remains tense as efforts continue to reach a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
