Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 is here, bringing together over 280 galleries from 38 countries in nearly 500,000 square feet of exhibition space. The fair is featuring a curated blend of iconic masterpieces, cutting-edge contemporary pieces, and larger-than-life installations, making it a must-see for art enthusiasts. Some highlights include works by 20th-century masters such as Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Roy Lichtenstein.
One of the most intriguing pieces is ‘Incarnator’ by Paul Pfeiffer at the Paula Cooper Gallery, featuring deconstructed, hand-carved wooden body parts of pop star Justin Bieber. For movie buffs, Swiss artist HR Giger’s iconic Necronom (Alien III) sculpture at Mai 36 Galerie is a must-see.
The Meridians sector, known for its experimental nature, is celebrating its fifth anniversary with 17 impressive works, including a large-scale artwork by Greek artist Antonis Donef. The Nova sector showcases emerging talent, such as Deborah Willis’ photographic series and works by artists like Jacqueline de Jong and Trevor Yeung.
The Positions sector focuses on individual international artists, with a highlight being Guatemalan artist Paula Nicho Cúmez. Her art depicts women paired with geometric motifs or dressed in traditional Mayan garments rich with symbols of collective memory.
Away from the convention centre, public art displays like ‘The Great Elephant Migration’ are adding to the week’s celebrations. Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 is a feast for the eyes, running from 6 to 8 December 2024.
