After a 25-year search, Marcella Nasseri found her long-lost brother in a USA TODAY story asking for help identifying a nonverbal man in a Los Angeles County hospital. However, new details revealed that her brother, Thomas Manizak, is a registered sex offender convicted of abusing a child in 1993. Despite this troubling information, Nasseri remains committed to helping her brother, who vanished in 1999.
Authorities failed to fingerprint Manizak in Los Angeles, leading to his identification through photographs and Nasseri’s positive identification. Manizak, who spent three years in prison for his offense, had disappeared after moving to Oregon, failing to register as required by law.
Nasseri has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Manizak’s transfer to a facility closer to her home, where she hopes to provide him with comfort items like clothing, drawing materials, and a listening device for music. While the family experienced heartache due to Manizak’s actions and disappearance, Nasseri remains dedicated to reuniting with her brother and providing him with care and support. She plans to visit him as soon as possible once she is able to leave her home. Despite the challenges and past actions of her brother, Nasseri’s love and commitment to him remain unwavering.
