Officials have revealed that the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson appears to be a targeted attack, with police homing in on the identity of the suspect. Thompson was fatally shot outside the New York Hilton Midtown on 6th Avenue, with the killer last seen cycling out of Central Park. The suspect dropped a water bottle at the scene which could provide DNA evidence. The killer left behind a cryptic message on live rounds and shell casings. Just 12 hours after the shooting, a bomb threat was made targeting Thompson’s home in Minnesota, which turned out to be a false alarm. The suspect has not been caught, but police are offering a $10,000 reward for information.
New photos released by the NYPD show the unmasked suspect, who was also photographed without a mask at a hostel where he recently stayed. Police believe the shooting was not a random act of violence but a premeditated attack. Mayor Eric Adams says police are on the right path in finding the gunman, and that they are moving at a steady pace. Thompson and his wife had been living separately for years, with Paulette Thompson stating that her husband had recently received threats. Police are confident that they will apprehend the suspect and bring them to justice for Thompson’s murder.
