The Vatican recently unveiled Pope Francis’ new electric Mercedes G-Class ‘Popemobile.’ This four-wheel-drive vehicle is the first all-electric Popemobile and aligns with the Pontiff’s stance on climate protection. CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group, Ola Källenius, expressed honor in providing the Pope with this unique car, which has an elevated and rotating heated chair for the Pope and rear platforms for Swiss guards. The vehicle, in the traditional papal color of white, is decorated with the Pope’s symbol on both sides. Källenius mentioned that it took “hundreds of hours of passion and craftsmanship” to build this special car. The electric Mercedes G-Class offers a quiet and smooth ride, perfect for the Pope’s general audiences and official ceremonies. Although the exact date of service is unknown, it is expected that Pope Francis will use the Popemobile during the 2025 Jubilee. This new electric Popemobile marks a significant step towards environmental sustainability in the Vatican and is a continuation of the hundred-year tradition of Mercedes-Benz providing vehicles for the Pope. With zero carbon emissions, the electric Mercedes G-Class is a symbol of the Pope’s commitment to addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainability. Pope Francis is set to greet pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square with his new environmentally friendly ride, showcasing a modern approach to traditions.
