Supreme Court to rule on lawsuit eligibility for U.S. victims of terrorist attacks committed by PLO overseas

The Supreme Court will be deciding whether U.S. citizens harmed in terrorist attacks in Israel can sue the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority in the United States. The families of victims of attacks between 2000 and 2005 sued under the Anti-Terrorism Act, but the appeals court overturned the judgment, stating that the attacks were not sufficiently connected to the U.S. for U.S. courts to consider them. Congress amended the law, but lower courts rejected the changes. The Justice Department and families have asked the Supreme Court to review the decision, arguing that the law is important for national security and promoting peace in the Middle East. The case is expected to be heard next year.
