West Boca secures spot in 6A state title game thanks to Walters’ clutch tackle during Southridge fumble return

West Boca Raton’s football team made history on Friday night by securing a spot in the state championship for the first time ever. In a thrilling Class 6A state semifinal game against Southridge, the Bulls emerged victorious with a dramatic 14-11 win.

The game came down to the wire, with West Boca leading 14-11 in the final seconds. After a fumble by West Boca’s quarterback, Southridge had a chance to score, but West Boca senior Jordyan Walters made a game-saving tackle, forced a fumble, and recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchback with just three seconds left on the clock.

The Bulls’ impressive defense, which has allowed just 25 points in their last four home playoff games, played a crucial role in securing the win. Junior defensive lineman Xavier Reid expressed pride in the team’s hard work and dedication, emphasizing their love for pressure situations.

Despite star running back Javian Mallory being sidelined for the game, West Boca managed to pull off the victory. The team will now face Osceola in the state final on Friday at FIU’s Pitbull Stadium.

Head coach Dylan Potts commended his players for their resilience and ability to win tough games throughout the season. He credited the school administration, community, and supporters for believing in the team and providing unwavering support.

The Bulls’ historic journey to the state championship showcases their determination and preparation for moments like these. The win against Southridge marks a significant milestone for the West Boca Raton football program.
