Weather on the East Coast expected to warm up and become wet as rainstorm approaches

Much of the East Coast is set to experience warmer temperatures midweek after a cold start to December, but with the warmth comes rainy and foggy weather. A storm system moving from the West will bring snow and possible travel delays to the Denver area on Monday, before strengthening near the Gulf Coast and reaching the East with wet weather and potential flood risks.

The Arctic blast that brought bitter cold temperatures will recede, allowing for a break from the cold weather. Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia are expected to see temperatures in the 50s and 60s during the week.

The initial wave of moisture on Monday will be mostly a “nuisance” rainfall, with the possibility of snow in northern New England. By Wednesday, heavier rain is expected along the I-95 corridor, potentially causing travel troubles. Flooding is a concern due to already saturated soil and snow melting from warmer temperatures.

The wet weather may alleviate fire concerns in some areas of the East Coast where dry conditions have increased wildfire risks. A return to cooler temperatures is expected at the end of the week, but overall, more seasonal weather is anticipated for the East and Central US in the next few weeks.
