Gov. Ron DeSantis is losing ground in the betting market for the next Defense Secretary, with former Fox News host Pete Hegseth taking the lead. Hegseth, a two-time Bronze Star recipient, now has a “Yes” share priced at 68 cents, compared to DeSantis’ 14 cents. Speculation had swirled that DeSantis might be President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the job, but it seems Hegseth is now the front runner. Despite being a former Navy JAG lawyer with experience in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, DeSantis has not publicly speculated on the process. U.S. Sen. Rick Scott continues to advocate for Hegseth, calling him a great nominee who will be confirmed. Trump himself has also expressed support for Hegseth. DeSantis and his team have remained quiet on the matter, with the focus shifting to their upcoming attendance at the Army-Navy Football Game. It seems that DeSantis may have missed his chance at the Defense Secretary position, as Hegseth’s nomination has weathered any controversies surrounding him.
