Efforts underway to clear debris from river

A salvage effort is underway near Washington, D.C. after an American Airlines passenger jet and a Black Hawk Helicopter collided, resulting in the deadliest air disaster in over two decades with 67 fatalities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working to remove the wreckage from the Potomac River, with a focus on the airliner that will take three days to retrieve. The Black Hawk helicopter and debris will be addressed next. Recovery crews have identified 55 of the 67 victims so far, with family members being taken to the crash site for a memorial. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision and revealed that the helicopter may have been flying above the designated altitude on the night of the incident. The helicopter was on a routine training mission when the collision occurred during the American Airlines flight’s landing. Updates on the recovery effort and investigation are expected.
