Gaza officials appeal for tents, blame Israel for hindering aid | Updates on Israel-Palestine tensions

The Gaza Government Media Office has declared securing temporary shelters as the most urgent humanitarian need in the region. Thousands of Palestinian families are currently sleeping outdoors in frigid temperatures due to their homes being destroyed by Israel. Authorities in Gaza are calling on donors to prioritize sending tents and temporary shelters to help those in need.

The Government Media Office accused Israel of obstructing aid and shelter delivery to Gaza in violation of the ceasefire agreement reached in January. The agreement mandates the delivery of 60,000 trailers and 200,000 tents to house Palestinians left homeless by Israeli bombings. However, Israel is allegedly delaying the execution of the agreement, worsening the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The United States President, Donald Trump, has proposed displacing the entire population of Gaza, a move condemned by Arab states as ethnic cleansing. Trump has played a role in brokering the truce with Israel, but has expressed concerns about its stability. The second stage of the agreement, which entails a full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and the release of all captives, has not been finalized.

Israeli parliament member Ofer Cassif criticized the lack of progress in talks for the second stage of the ceasefire agreement, stating that Netanyahu’s government is not genuinely interested in peace. Israel has killed nearly 62,000 Palestinians, including many who are missing and presumed dead, during the ongoing conflict that began in 2023. The situation remains precarious as the deadline for the current truce approaches.
