Legoland Florida announces layoffs affecting 234 employees, with the entertainment department taking the hardest hit. The theme park cites operational changes as the reason for the layoffs, with plans to start the process on March 25 and continue through April 7. The affected employees, many of whom have ties to Theatre Winter Haven, are now facing uncertainty about their future.
In response to the layoffs, Theatre Winter Haven and Ritz Theatre are organizing an event to benefit the displaced performers. The goal is to raise money to help them during the transition and to provide a platform for them to showcase their talents to agents and talent scouts. Executive director Dan Chesnicka expressed concern for the affected employees, noting their longstanding connection to the community theater.
Legoland explained that by reducing the size of their in-house teams, they aim to operate more flexibly and responsively in delivering brand and guest experiences, especially during seasonal special events. The theme park also plans to work with external partners to enhance their entertainment offerings as needed.
As the layoffs continue to unfold, the community is coming together to support the displaced employees and provide them with opportunities for the future. The event organized by Theatre Winter Haven and Ritz Theatre demonstrates solidarity and compassion toward those affected by the operational changes at Legoland Florida.
