The Golden Gate neighborhood in Martin County, Florida, was usually bustling with life and activity, but after a recent incident where witnesses saw ICE officers in unmarked cars taking people into custody, the neighborhood has been quiet and residents are scared. Luanna Filadelfo, who knows many people in the neighborhood, described the area as “dead” and devoid of life. Residents are terrified and are staying inside out of fear.
The video obtained by WPTV showed law enforcement officers, potentially from ICE, conducting arrests on the corner of Camino and Indian streets. While ICE has not confirmed the arrests, residents are shaken by the experience. Juana Jose expressed concern for her community, stating that some people lack empathy for those affected by such actions.
Despite the fear and uncertainty, residents like Jose have hope that the neighborhood will return to its vibrant state. It is evident that the recent enforcement actions by ICE have had a significant impact on the community, leaving residents feeling scared and isolated. The neighborhood that was once filled with life and activity is now quiet and residents are waiting for things to return to normal.
