West Palm Beach man taken into custody for online threats against Trump

In a press conference held by the West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) interim Chief Tony Araujo, it was announced that a man named Shannon Atkins, 46, from West Palm Beach, was arrested for making violent threats against President Donald Trump on social media. The arrest came after a tip was received from a man in Okeechobee to the FBI National Threat Operations Center on Jan. 19. WPBPD detectives, along with the FBI, conducted an investigation and found threatening posts made by Atkins on social media. Atkins was stopped near his home on Jan. 24 and was found in possession of three bags of cocaine. He is now facing charges for written threats, as well as possession of cocaine. The Secret Service will determine if Atkins will face any federal charges.

Chief Araujo emphasized the seriousness of making threatening statements, stating that in today’s climate, such threats cannot be taken lightly. Atkins claimed the posts were a joke, but the police are treating them seriously due to the current climate of threats becoming reality. Atkins is currently being held without bond.

This arrest follows another incident where a man from Sunny Isles Beach was arrested for trespassing at Mar-a-Lago. Bijan T. Arceo, 32, faces charges of occupied trespassing after jumping over a wall surrounding the property on Jan. 23. The WPBPD is urging the community to report any suspicious behavior or threats to prevent potential harm. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
