Tim Thomas, Marcelle Adkins, and Mark Lightner qualify for Senate District 19 while Debbie Mayfield and Gabriel Goddard are removed from the ballot

The Secretary of State has announced a Special Election to fill the state Senate seat vacated by Randy Fine, with several candidates vying for the position. Former state rep. Debbie Mayfield was disqualified due to term limits, creating a surprise in the race. Tim Thomas, a former Melbourne City Council member, entered the race late, along with Marcie Adkins and Mark Lightner III. Democrat Vance Ahrens, who Fine defeated in November, is also running. The Republican Primary will take place on April 1, with the winner facing Ahrens in the Special General Election on June 10. Gabriel Goddard, who filed for the seat, was also disqualified. The seat became vacant when Fine resigned to run for Congress. The Special Election for Fine’s congressional seat will take place on April 1.
