Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Panthers secured a 74-65 victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, ending a four-game losing streak. Ishmael Leggett led the Panthers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Cameron Corhen with 17 points and Zack Austin with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Amsal Delalic and Brandin Cummings also contributed with 14 and 11 points respectively.
Miami’s Lynn Kidd had a strong performance with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while A.J. Staton-McCray and Brandon Johnson scored 13 and 12 points each. Pitt took control in the second half with a 10-2 run that held Miami without a field goal for five minutes, ultimately giving them a 57-45 lead.
As the game neared its end, Miami closed the gap with a 3-pointer by Jalil Bethea, bringing the score to 68-61. However, Pitt secured the win with six successful free throws. Technical fouls were assessed to Cummings and Miami’s Divine Ugochukwu in the closing moments of the game.
The first half saw Miami briefly take the lead, only to be overtaken by Pitt with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Delalic. Leggett had an impressive first half with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Miami, who had recently secured two wins after a tough start to the conference season, will take on Florida State next.
