Florida Gators Climbs to No. 2 in AP Top 25 Poll as Auburn Retains Top Spot

Auburn University’s men’s basketball team has secured the No. 1 ranking in The Associated Press Top 25 poll for the sixth straight week after their win against Alabama. Despite a recent loss to Florida, Auburn received 59 of 60 first-place votes in the latest poll. The team’s victory over Alabama, coupled with being named the No. 1 overall seed in the preliminary NCAA Tournament rankings, solidified their position at the top.

Following Auburn in the rankings are Florida and Duke, with Florida claiming the No. 2 spot and Duke slipping to third. Florida’s strong performance, including a recent win over South Carolina, positions them as a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gators’ 7-foot-1 center, Micah Handlogten, returned to the court after a year-long injury hiatus, further bolstering the team’s strength.

Other notable teams in the top 10 include Alabama, Houston, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and St. John’s. Texas Tech, in particular, made a significant jump in the rankings, climbing three spots to crack the top 10 for the first time in three years.

Several teams experienced shifts in the rankings, with Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, Clemson, and Maryland all moving up. On the flip side, Memphis, Purdue, Arizona, Kansas, and Mississippi saw declines in their rankings.

Louisville made a comeback in the rankings, landing at No. 25, while Creighton fell out of the top 25 this week. The Southeastern Conference leads in terms of teams represented in the rankings, with nine teams making the list. The Big 12 and Big Ten follow closely behind with five teams each.
