Florida to carry out execution of Edward James for murders of Toni Neuner and Betty Dick – NBC 6 South Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a death warrant for Edward James, a Florida man convicted of murdering a woman and raping and killing her 8-year-old granddaughter in Seminole County in 1993. James is set to be executed on March 20 at Florida State Prison. The brutal attack took the lives of 8-year-old Toni Neuner and her grandmother Betty Dick. James had been renting a room in Dick’s home when he committed the heinous crimes.

Court records show that James strangled the young girl before raping her vaginally and anally. Neuner suffered severe internal injuries and was strangled to death. James then proceeded to the bedroom of Neuner’s grandmother, stabbing her over 20 times with two different knives.

James pleaded guilty to the murders, child abuse, and kidnapping charges, and pleaded no contest to other charges he claimed not to remember. This execution will be the state’s second of the year, following the recent execution of James Dennis Ford for a double murder in 1997 in Charlotte County.

Governor DeSantis’s decision to sign the death warrant highlights the severity of the crimes committed by Edward James. The upcoming execution has brought justice to the victims’ family and serves as a reminder of the consequences of such heinous acts.
