Appointment of Charlotte County Sheriff to Florida’s Immigration Enforcement Council

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell has been appointed to Florida’s new Immigration Enforcement Council, created by Senate Bill 2C and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. The council consists of law enforcement officers who will assist the State Board of Immigration Enforcement in enforcing federal immigration laws. Their responsibilities include seeking guidance from ICE for training opportunities, advising on local law enforcement efforts, recommending financial resources for agencies, proposing information sharing between state, local, and federal entities, and suggesting strategies to increase detention bed availability for ICE.

In addition to Sheriff Prummell, Duval County Sheriff T.K. Waters will also serve on the council, which includes eight members appointed by various officials. Sheriff Prummell expressed his honor in joining the council, emphasizing the importance of enforcing Florida’s immigration laws, upholding the rule of law, and protecting communities.

The State Immigration Enforcement Council will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper enforcement of immigration laws in Florida, with its members providing insight, feedback, and recommendations to improve immigration enforcement efforts. The collaborative effort between state, local, and federal agencies aims to enhance coordination and cooperation in handling immigration issues for the benefit of both law enforcement and the community.
