The University of Missouri baseball team kicked off the Andre Dawson Classic with a thrilling 6-5 victory over Florida A&M. Kaden Peer’s one-out single in the seventh inning brought in the deciding run. Gehrig Goldbeck led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 night at the plate, including a bunt-single and a leadoff double. Missouri’s pitchers combined for a season-high 13 strikeouts, with Brock Lucas leading the way with a career-best eight. Xavier Lovett secured the win with his first collegiate save. Peer and Goldbeck contributed two RBIs each, while Trey Lawrence and Cameron Benson had their first two-hit games as Tigers.
Missouri had to fight off a Rattlers rally, overcoming an early three-run deficit and trading runs with Florida A&M throughout the game. The Tigers loaded the bases in the seventh and capitalized on Peer’s line-drive single to take the lead. The victory improved their record to 2-0 against Florida A&M. Peer extended his hit streak to four games, while Benson recorded his first multi-hit game as a Tiger.
The Tigers will face Alabama State next at the Andre Dawson Classic. For more information on Mizzou baseball, visit MUTigers.com and follow the team on social media for updates.
