Kraken benefit from controversial call, edge Florida with help from former Panthers

Former Florida Panther Jared McCann scored the game-winning goal early in the third period, leading the Seattle Kraken to a 2-1 victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions on Saturday night. The Kraken’s win was aided by a controversial goaltender interference call that disallowed a late-second-period goal by the Panthers, ultimately impacting the outcome of the game.

Kaappo Kakko also contributed a goal for the Kraken, while Joey Daccord made 26 saves in the win. Eetu Luostarinen scored the lone goal for the Panthers in a game where star forward Matthew Tkachuk was absent due to injury.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Kraken and marked the end of a five-game home win streak for the Panthers. Seattle split the two-game season series against the Atlantic Division-leading Panthers.

Seattle’s victory was highlighted by strong defensive play, including goaltending and shot-blocking efforts. The Kraken blocked 15 shots in the game, with defenseman Brad Montour making three key blocks in his first game back at Florida since signing with Seattle in the offseason.

Looking ahead, the Panthers will face off against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday as they aim to bounce back from the loss. The Kraken, meanwhile, will look to build on this win as they continue their season.
