Federal authorities report that a Tajik man residing in New York sent $70,000 to assist ISIS

The FBI believes that the attacker in the New Orleans incident acted alone, contrary to early reports of possible accomplices. A Tajik national living in New York, Mansuri Manuchekhri, was arrested and charged with supporting ISIS and ISIS-K, as well as possessing firearms illegally and committing immigration fraud. He allegedly facilitated payments to ISIS affiliates and trained with assault rifles, expressing readiness to ISIS. The FBI was alerted to Manuchekhri by a family member concerned about his radicalization. He sent $70,000 to ISIS-related individuals, possessed firearms, and sent videos of himself firing an assault rifle to an ISIS contact in Turkey. Manuchekhri entered the U.S. illegally and paid for a “sham marriage” to gain legal status. His arrest follows terrorism warnings, as well as a New Year’s Day truck attack in New Orleans. The attack killed 14 people, with the suspect reportedly inspired by ISIS. The FBI and DHS issued warnings about potential copycat vehicle attacks. Multiple cases of Americans attempting to join or support ISIS have made headlines. In total, 246 individuals were charged in the U.S. with ISIS-related offenses. This includes a New York man arrested at JFK Airport, a Kentucky man convicted for fighting for ISIS in Syria, and an Idaho student arrested for planning church attacks on behalf of ISIS.
