Haywood Highsmith makes a statement in his return for the Heat

Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith has been putting in extra hours in the gym after being squeezed out of the rotation following the trade of Jimmy Butler. However, his hard work paid off when he was back in the rotation, scoring 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a win against the Hawks. Teammate Duncan Robinson praised Highsmith for his professionalism and work ethic, saying he is refreshing to be around.

Coach Erik Spoelstra also commended Highsmith for earning his minutes and staying ready, with Highsmith playing 27 minutes in the victory over the Hawks. Highsmith expressed his gratification for the opportunity to contribute and provide a spark for the team.

Meanwhile, point guard Davion Mitchell, another player acquired in the Butler trade, is adjusting to the Heat’s defensive system. Mitchell’s aggressive defense and ability to fight through screens have been challenging to adapt to, but his determination is appreciated by his teammates, including Highsmith.

Highsmith sees potential in teaming up with Mitchell on defense, describing him as a “pitbull” who fits the Heat’s culture. As Mitchell continues to adapt to the team’s defensive schemes, Highsmith believes they can develop a strong defensive rhythm together. The Heat are looking forward to their upcoming matchup against the Indiana Pacers, with Highsmith and Mitchell expected to play key roles in the game.
