Internet personality Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have left Romania for Florida, USA amidst an ongoing criminal investigation against them. The brothers are facing accusations of forming an organized criminal group, human trafficking, sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering, which they have denied. The Financial Times reported that members of the Trump administration allegedly pressured Romanian authorities to lift the travel restrictions on the Tates.
Despite the allegations, the brothers are under judicial control and are required to check in with police regularly. They were previously detained in 2022, but a first criminal case against them failed in December due to flaws in the indictment. Additionally, a British arrest warrant has been issued for the Tates relating to allegations of sexual aggression between 2012 and 2015.
Andrew Tate, a self-described misogynist, has gained millions of followers on social media by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle that has drawn criticism for denigrating women. Despite their legal troubles, the Tates continue to have a strong online presence and following.
The request to lift the travel ban on the Tate brothers was recently approved by prosecutors, but they are expected to return to Romania by the end of March to fulfill their legal obligations related to the criminal case. The brothers’ future legal proceedings in Romania will determine if they will be extradited to face charges in the UK.
