James Brockermeyer of the Miami Hurricanes is prepared to take on the role of starting center

James Brockermeyer, a transfer from TCU, has joined the University of Miami as their new center for what is likely his final year of college football. Brockermeyer, who spent three seasons at Alabama without seeing much playing time, saw an opportunity to start with the Hurricanes and seized it. He arrived on campus in January and quickly immersed himself in learning the team’s playbook, receiving extra help from coaches and graduate assistants.

Brockermeyer’s dedication to learning the calls and formations paid off, as he was able to seamlessly integrate into the offensive line during spring practice. With five returning linemen who got starts last year, Brockermeyer’s ability to quickly pick up the playbook helped maintain the chemistry and knowledge the team built the previous season.

Teammates praised Brockermeyer for his personality and willingness to listen and learn from those who have been with the Hurricanes longer. Right guard Anez Cooper commended Brockermeyer for already knowing the points and calls, minimizing the need for re-teaching.

Brockermeyer expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the Hurricanes’ program, citing excellent coaches, players, facilities, and culture as reasons for his decision to join the team. His performance at TCU, where he earned an offensive grade of 71.5 from Pro Football Focus, indicates that he will be a valuable addition to Miami’s offensive line in the upcoming season.
