A suspected thief in Florida made headlines last week after swallowing two pairs of diamond earrings valued at nearly $770,000 during his arrest. The Orlando Police Department was left waiting for the suspect to pass the earrings, which were visible on an X-ray. The 32-year-old man from Texas was accused of forcefully stealing the earrings from an upscale Orlando shopping center, claiming to be purchasing them on behalf of an Orlando Magic basketball player before making a run for it.
After obtaining the suspect’s license plate from security footage, state troopers tracked him driving back to Texas and pulled him over for driving without rear lights in Washington County, nearly 340 miles away. During his arrest, the suspect ingested several items believed to be the earrings, leading to charges of first-degree felony grand theft and robbery with a mask. As of Wednesday morning, he was in police custody in Orange County, Florida.
Despite efforts to recover the stolen jewelry, it remains unclear whether the earrings have been retrieved. Police spokesperson Kaylee Bishop confirmed that the department was still waiting for confirmation. The suspect’s actions have stirred curiosity and intrigue, drawing attention to the bizarre and daring nature of the crime. In the meantime, law enforcement continues to monitor the situation, eagerly anticipating the recovery of the valuable Tiffany & Co. earrings.
