Donatella Versace Steps Down as Creative Director of Milan Fashion House – NBC 6 South Florida

Donatella Versace has been replaced as creative director of the fashion house founded by her late brother Gianni Versace and is assuming the new role of chief brand ambassador, according to a statement from Versace’s U.S. owner Capri Holdings. Dario Vitale, who recently served as design director at Miu Miu, will take over as creative director effective April 1.

Speculation is swirling about a possible acquisition of Versace by the Prada Group, as Prada Group’s interest in the brand has been acknowledged by Miuccia Prada. Despite this, Capri Holdings made no mention of any plans to sell Versace in their statement.

Versace CEO John D. Idol expressed confidence in Vitale’s leadership and vision for the future growth of Versace. Donatella Versace stated that she is thrilled to champion the next generation of designers alongside Vitale and is excited to see the brand evolve through new eyes.

Versace will remain involved in the brand as its chief brand ambassador, supporting the values and legacy of the brand her brother founded in 1978. The fashion house represented 20% of Capri Holdings’ revenue in 2024, and the company has laid out strategic plans to reposition the Versace portfolio to appeal to more consumers and return to its daring roots.
