UCF Athletics: Softball team loses to Florida 3-0 in No. 21 vs No. 3 matchup

In a Wednesday evening matchup, the No. 21 UCF softball team fell to the No. 3 Florida Gators with a final score of 3-0 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. True freshman pitcher Yessenia Lopez delivered a strong performance, allowing just three runs on four hits against the top-ranked Gators offense. Despite Lopez’s efforts, the Knights struggled to produce offensively against Florida’s starter Kara Hammock.

The Gators took an early lead with solo home runs from Jocelyn Erickson and Kendra Falby. Lopez managed to hold off Florida in the later innings, but UCF was unable to mount a comeback against the Gators’ strong pitching and defense. The Knights did show some signs of life in the top of the seventh with a late rally, but it was ultimately shut down by the Gators’ relief pitcher.

Looking ahead, UCF will regroup and prepare for their upcoming three-game series against the Arizona State Sun Devils on March 14-16. The Knights will aim to bounce back from their loss to the Gators and put on a strong performance in their Big 12 home-opening series.
