‘Do I Have to Deal with This?’

A Florida couple in Lee County had a surprise visitor when a nearly 7-foot alligator made its way into their home. Paul Quinn and his wife Mary Jo encountered the reptile in their living room, prompting them to call wildlife officials for assistance. A video shared by a local news affiliate shows the gator lying near the couple’s kitchen table before being safely removed from the home by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The couple believes the alligator gained access to their home through a screen door that was left open for a nice breeze. The incident left them shaken, with Mary Jo expressing fear of another alligator entering their home. Paul emphasized the importance of being cautious around alligators, as encounters are not uncommon in Florida, especially for residents living in waterfront homes or participating in water-related activities.

This recent incident follows another alligator sighting in the area, where a 6-foot, 400-pound gator was captured on video casually walking towards a home in Ave Maria. The homeowner, Stacy Thrasher, described hearing the noise of the gator and seeing it near the porch. With these incidents in mind, Florida residents are reminded to never feed alligators, keep their distance, and keep pets on a leash when near water bodies. The state’s wildlife officials urge caution and proper safety measures to prevent potential alligator encounters.
