AOC criticizes Florida Democrats for unauthorized use of material in campaign ads
In a recent development, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, popularly known as AOC, has called out two Florida Democrats, Gay Valimont and Josh Weil, for using excerpts from her Instagram speech in their campaign ads without permission. Valimont is running for Florida’s 1st Congressional District seat left vacant by Matt Gaetz, while Weil is seeking the 6th Congressional District seat.
Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to express her disapproval, stating that she was not personally involved in any races at the moment. Democratic National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg, who advised the Florida Democrats to cease using the material, criticized fundraising adviser Jackson McMillan for the unauthorized use.
Furthermore, Weil’s campaign faced scrutiny as one of his campaign workers was distributing flyers on a stolen bicycle, leading to calls for his arrest by Republican competitor Randy Fine. The 6th Congressional District seat is up for a special election on April 1 after Michael Waltz vacated it to serve as Trump’s National Security Advisor.
With tensions rising within the Democratic Party in Florida, it remains to be seen how Valimont and Weil will respond to the criticism and whether their campaigns will be impacted by the unauthorized use of material in their ads. As the special election approaches, the political landscape in Florida continues to be a hotbed of controversy and competition.
