Fort Myers Man Arrested After Standoff with Authorities
A Fort Myers man, Weston Allen Gardner, 39, was taken into custody by Lee County’s Sheriff’s Office after a standoff on Friday night. Deputies were called to a home on Gorthan Ave. where Gardner had allegedly pointed a gun at someone during a fight and barricaded himself in a bedroom.
The standoff lasted for several hours, with Gardner ignoring commands to come out. The Special Operations Unit and Crisis Negotiations Team were deployed to assist in bringing Gardner out of the bedroom. He was eventually arrested and now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and obstruction without violence.
A search of the home resulted in the seizure of a handgun, ammunition, and a holster. The investigation is ongoing, and details about the fight and the relationship between Gardner and the other individual involved are still unknown.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno commended the teamwork of the authorities in de-escalating the situation and ensuring the safety of the residents. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to use all available resources to protect the community.
