Check out the forecast for Auroras in more than 12 states across the US.

A period of peak magnetic storms on the sun is expected to lead to another display of the northern lights on Earth on Saturday and Sunday, according to forecasters. Spectators in Fairbanks, Alaska, recorded a stunning display of green auroras before a lunar eclipse. The auroras, also known as the aurora borealis, are expected to be visible in nearly half of the states, with the best views expected in Alaska and states along the northern border in the Midwest.

The best time to see the northern lights is usually within an hour or two of midnight, and skygazers are advised to travel to dark locations free from light pollution for the best views. The phenomenon is caused by electrically charged particles from space colliding with molecules and gases in Earth’s atmosphere, producing a stunning display of light. The current appearance of the northern lights is attributed to the sun reaching the peak of its 11-year cycle of magnetic activity, creating more opportunities to see the phenomenon.

Experts recommend checking the NOAA aurora dashboard for updates on when and where the northern lights will be visible. The forecast predicts that a coronal mass of plasma and magnetic field ejected from the sun on Friday is racing towards Earth at 750,000 mph, with a fast but faint partial halo expected to arrive early Sunday morning. Make sure not to miss this spectacular celestial event.
